The average
family spends approximately $20 a month on
laundry detergent, as the aquatic ecosystem

whites. Two-thirds of the Earth's surface is covered with water. Only 3%
of that water is fresh water and only a small percentage of that is fit

Many ads for
laundry detergent talk about the clean smell of the clothes after
using their detergent. A nice, fresh, "perfumey" smell. The problem
with this is that clean clothes
do not smell like perfume...perfume smells like perfume. Clean clothes
have no odor at all. Many of us walk around in perfume impregnated clothes.
Perfumes are chemical compounds known as aromatics. They have a tendency
to weave their way into tight spaces like in our bodies and for some of
us this spells trouble in the form of environmental and chemical sensitivities. Some
of those red eyes and runny noses are not because of allergies, but due
to the perfume and
laundry detergents left behind In our clothes.

"How Do I Use Them?"
Simply
place the
laundry system units and your clothes in your washing machine and turn
your washer on. Remember, the MLS Laundry System replaces
laundry detergent only.
The use of prewash spot-remover sprays, bleaches or additives are optional, and
may be used at your own discretion. The
laundry system is also extremely convenient and simple to use, and it
is easy to transport to
the
laundromat (if you don't do your wash at home).
Chlorine Issues: Chlorine is a chemical that is frequently added to rid water of excess
phosphates and other chemicals found in
laundry detergent. It can kill the friendly intestinal flora that
protects the body from harmful pathogens and make important vitamins like
vitamin B12. Chlorine can also cause skin irritation and digestive disorders and may
be a factor in serious diseases. Chlorinated water contains carcinogens, which, when inside cells,
may cause mutation of DNA. This can affect areas of the body such as the
blood and mother's milk.
Water and Environmental Issues:
Just about every household, hotel, hospital, nursing home, prison and military
base in the developed world uses laundry detergent to clean their garments and
linens. Because these chemicals are non-renewable (one-time use) billions of
tons of these chemicals get dumped back into the water supply every year. The
concern of many environmentalists is that we are poisoning ourselves slowly, and
this has been one of the main reasons we have made the transition from drinking
tap water, to exclusively drinking bottled spring water over the last 15 years.
Much of the fresh water supply has become undrinkable. Because water is
the most critical element for human beings in the environment, it is in our best
interests to do whatever we can to protect our precious and fragile fresh water
supply for the future.
Health Issues: Many people
have negative reactions to using synthetic chemicals like those found in
detergents and other cleaners. The reactions can range from mild skin irritation
to full blown allergic/chemical sensitivity reactions like severe rashes and
respiratory difficulties. The laundry chemicals are never fully rinsed out in
the washing machine and may serve as a constant irritant on your clothes all
day, every day. There is a percentage of the population that has no tolerance
for chemicals, and they have no choice but to seek alternatives.
Additional Issues: Other chemicals in
commercial laundry detergents include perfumes and fluorescent dyes. Perfumes
can be highly toxic and can seriously exacerbate allergies and chemical
sensitivities. The fluorescent dyes make clothes look "whiter" by fluorescing in
daylight. (That's why your white clothes seem to glow when you go somewhere that
"black light" -- ultraviolet -- is being used.) Also, excess detergent can stick
around in your washer where it forms compounds with hard water that settle on
your clothes, and so on.
